School is almost out! Summer is here for kids which means a lot of free time. You and other parents still find yourselves busy with work, but you don’t want your child staying in and playing video games all day. While video games seem like an easy fix for attention during the summer, kids can lose around 2 months of learning which can disrupt learning at the start of school in the fall. At Northern Hemisphere our summer camps in Rochester, NY provide healthy and stimulating activities that help kids grow in many ways.

Community For Children

Summer camp experiences help children to mature their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical aspects of their lives. "The building blocks of self-esteem are belonging, learning, and contributing. Camps offer unique opportunities for children to succeed in these three vital areas and even beyond home and school." Michael Popkin, Ph.D., family therapist and founder of Active Parenting.

While children are surrounded by classmates during the school year, their development goal is to learn and memorize different subjects. While that is very beneficial, summer camps provide opportunities for children to be part of a different social community. The American Camp Association states “sense of community for children is rooted in enabling and empowering children to be belonging, cooperating, contributing, and caring citizens.”

Building a Can-Do Attitude

When your child is faced with new challenges, they begin to learn more about themselves and build self-esteem. Now every challenge doesn’t end up as a massive success, failure is a huge part of growing. Summer camps give children the freedom to learn how to cope with both success and failure. Achieving something such as our Ninja Warrior course will instill a sense of resiliency which they’ll grow and develop even more throughout their childhood. Learning how to problem solve and make social adjustments to new people will develop your child’s self-esteem here at our summer camps in Rochester, NY.
